Happy 19th anniversary to Disney's 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire' movie.
(Released today on June 15th, 2001)
(Now some you might not know but I've worked on this film as a character clean-up animator and Princess Kida was my assigned character. This marks my 2nd feature film credit for Disney.)
Now here's a back story of my memorable journey to the 'Atlantis' movie:
I had just finished working on the production of 'The Road to El Dorado' and previously before that- 'The Prince of Egypt' for DreamWorks studios, that I decided to leave the studio and return back to Disney Feature Animation studios with the excitement and hopes of working on the production of 'Atlantis'. So I called up Disney's recruiter, the same lady who hired me for the production of 'Fantasia 2000', and I told her that I would leave DreamWorks in a heartbeat if she can get me on the production of 'Atlantis'. She said she'll get back to me in a few days. Meanwhile, the two production coordinators at DreamWorks kept hounding me about signing my contract for their next production, which would be the horse movie aka 'Spirit'. I kept making excuses and delaying the signing process as much as possible. I even went out of my way to dodge them in the hallway whenever I see them coming. I was living a comedy show! Lol. Two days later, I get the call from Disney's recruiter- "Ok, we got a spot for you on 'Atlantis', but she's not your typical Disney princess." She laughs. In conclusion, I got my new contract in the mail and it turns out to be for a TWO picture deal- 'Atlantis' and a second unknown title called 'The Project' which later turns out to be my 3rd animated feature film for Disney- 'Treasure Planet'. It was the highlight of my animation career!
